If a person qualifies he/she must pay a part of the long-term care expenses using all his/her income, except for a small amount for personal needs and some deductions for monthly premiums.

Long-term care may be given through community programs, if the person lives at home, or in a medical facility such as a nursing home or institution. Medicaid benefits are available for one year. A renewal application will be sent to the person before the validity period ends.
