Multiple Health Quotes Help Families Find Texas Child Health Insurance

Families Whose Children are Uninsured may be able to get Texas child health insurance through the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children’s Medicaid.

Children’s Medicaid is health insurance coverage given to children at no cost to their families – provided these families qualify based on state guidelines and regulations. Once their application is approved the children are immediately covered.

CHIP is designed to provide health insurance for families who do not qualify for Medicaid but whose income levels are not enough for them to buy private health insurance. Enrolment fees for CHIP are about $50 or less per family for every 12 months that they are eligible for the program. Co-payments for prescription drugs and visits to physicians are from $3 to $10. Both fees are based on family income.

In Order to Qualify for Children’s Medicaid or CHIP, the child must be a Texas resident, either a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident, and must be 18 or younger. The parents’ immigration status or citizenship is not needed on the application form and does not affect the child’s eligibility.

Any Adult Living with an Uninsured Child who provides care for that child may apply for the program. They can be parents, adult brothers or sisters, grandparents, step-parents, legal guardians, or other relatives.

Employees of the State of Texas can provide child health insurance coverage for their dependent children (under age 19) if they qualify for an insurance supplement.

Uninsured Texas Residents who are pregnant and unable to get Medicaid may be eligible for CHIP perinatal benefits. She will have coverage before the child is born and it will last for 12 months starting from the date the unborn child is enrolled. She can avail of benefits that include:

· Prenatal visits (up to 20)

· Labor-related professional service charges (with delivery only) and hospital fees

· Coverage for prescription drugs based on CHIP pharmaceutical guidelines

· Two visits for the mother after delivery

· Prescriptions, vaccines, and regular check-ups for the baby

False labor and pre-term labor that does not result in birth does not qualify for benefits
