Your Choice for Texas Child Health Insurance Programs is Clear

MultipleHealthQuotes.com makes it easy for you to get health coverage for your family through the Texas Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children’s Medicaid. Texas children who are uninsured and 18 years and younger, are eligible for CHIP coverage – provided they are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. It’s not necessary to report the citizenship, or immigration status, of the parents on the application form and it does not affect the child’s eligibility.

Parents, grandparents or any adult who lives and provides for the uninsured child may apply for CHIP. But there’s a 90-day waiting period before CHIP benefits can be used if the child was enrolled for the first time, and had previous coverage from private health insurance.

Some exceptions to the 90-day waiting period include: Children who lost health coverage because of their parent’s loss of employment due to job layoff or a business closure, the parent’s marital status changed, their parent’s employer ended coverage for dependents, the child’s previous private health plan cost more than 10% of family gross income and newborns and other children were added to a current CHIP account.

CHIP and Children’s Medicaid offer benefits that include: Regular doctor office visits and check-ups, dentist visits for cleanings and filings, vaccines, prescription drugs, mental health care, x-rays and lab tests, hospital care, eye exams and treatment of pre-existing conditions.

CHIP Perinatal coverage is designed for Texas residents who are uninsured, pregnant, and unable to get Medicaid. Women that qualify get coverage before the child is born. After birth, coverage lasts for 12 months from the time the baby is enrolled.

CHIP Perinatal benefits include: Coverage for prescription drugs (based on CHIP formulary), prenatal check-ups of up to 20 visits, labor-related healthcare professional services and hospital services expenses with delivery only. There is no coverage if labor does not result in birth, vaccines, regular check-ups and prescription medicines for the baby, and 2 visits for the mother postpartum.
